Another beautiful product we want to tell you about is a line of creative wreaths.  The company uses twigs, shrubs and wild grasses to create beautifully hand-crafted wreaths. Over 200 different types of products are used in a variety of wreaths. Material is harvested from not only local woods and farms, but from all over the country including parts of California, Washington and the New England states.

Options for everyone don’t stop here.  Becky has been using their “naked” wreaths for years to craft custom designs for clients, friends and family.  Colors, sizes, shapes and materials will be selected to meet your needs.  A couple of wreaths that were made using last season’s hydrangeas from her garden are pictured here and are only a sampling of what can be created just for you or that someone special to whom you would like to give a one of a kind gift made just for them.

Now let’s briefly mention plants!  Starting with recently released repeat performers, Encore Azaleas and Bloomerang® Lilacs; old fashioned favorites that previously bloomed for only a couple of weeks.  They have been developed to now bloom repeatedly throughout the seasons.  We planted some lilacs in October that were still in bloom, fragrant and looked great!  The Encore Azaleas are now being offered in shades to include purple, white, red, pink, pale pink, coral pink, orange and rose.  As designers, we veered away from plants that had only brief periods of interest, so these new intros we are proud to incorporate and will have a variety of sizes and colors.  Encore Azaleas can even tolerate Full Sun!

Always seeking new and unusual plants, we are thrilled to say that there are more than one hundred perennial introductions from Sunny Border Nursery alone for 2012!  Dwarf and miniature crape myrtles that have always been in demand will be available, along with other cold hardy varieties for that wow display of summer color.  We are going to bring in some unusual conifers, perfect to use in landscaping  around ponds and water features or in containers, which offer year round interest to your gardens.  Unique foliage has been developed in some incredible broadleaf shrubs that are must haves for special spaces.  We can’t forget the trees, more impressive than ever from rare Japanese Maples to Redbuds that you’ve never seen, it’s tough to choose so we’ll bring in a few of each.  And last but not least come the tropical plants and annuals, too many to list here.

New items from Aquascape make for water features made even easier.  From fountains to a new line of pumps, there is plenty more to share with you, but here we will limit the information to a few of the highlights.

A new concept for fountains is the 2 fountains in 1: Granite Transition Garden Fountain which consists of a half sphere atop an urn that can be positioned two ways depending upon your mood, available in three sizes, and ranging from about 12-28” in height.  The unit is self contained and can be enjoyed almost anywhere.  The pump is included so all you need is an outlet and some water and presto… instant gratification!

The second group of fountains consists of three styles of Bamboo Pouring Fountains that may be used with the Patio Ponds or along side of your pond.  One of them is called the DEER SCARER BAMBOO FOUNTAIN because the bamboo teeters back and forth, creating a somewhat inconsistent sound that the deer don’t like.

The next generation of Natural Mongolian Basalt Columns is a group of fountains handcrafted from natural stone to provide beautiful waterscapes that maybe enjoyed individually or in combination, because they are available in three sizes 24”, 30” and 36”; which may be installed on a basin or in a shallow area of a pond.  Other new fountains will be on display at our outdoor showroom and even more are available for special orders.

The Seasons have just changed again and already Autumn has officially begun.  The leaves are starting to turn and due to the enormously wet weather we have experienced recently, it is being predicted that the color show of the leaves will be less significant than prior years.  Experts are saying that the amount of rain will cause leaves to curl and drop sooner than usual without the chance to have a significant Fall color display.  Evidence is already proving this to be true.  Leaves are falling and you want to keep them out of your pond.

The translation is that it is time to do Fall water feature maintenance NOW!  Don’t put it off.  Whether you plan to tackle the chore over the valuable weekend, or contact us to do it for you, it is time to get netting of your pond scheduled.  Decaying leaves and debris are not good for your pond and fish and may be even more harmful through the Winter and Spring because the gasses produced are harmful and can even be deadly for your friendly pets.

Speaking of your fish, remember to switch to low temperature food at 65 °F and stop feeding at 55 °F.  They can’t properly digest the food as the water gets colder so it just adds to the organic debris in the pond.
About 50% of pond owners shut down their ponds for the winter because they don’t want to have to monitor water levels.  The incredible aesthetic rewards of a winter pond can be well worth the effort. Either way be sure to have the supplies necessary to keep your pond from freezing over completely because this is when toxic gasses will harm your fish.
