September in Pennsylvania has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Mother Nature creates a yearly palette of beauty for us in the northeast that is second to none! Imagine dusk, with the colors of autumn surrounding you and an alfresco dinner on a gorgeous outdoor patio. The hosts couldn’t be nicer, the food delicious and the setting exquisite. This property has something for everyone; are you a swimmer? They have a therapeutic swim spa. How about a sports enthusiast? They have a large outdoor TV. Looking for some creative ways to use water outside? Take a look at the waterfalls that appear to empty into the swim spa and another that cascades through the garden. for you. Roasting marshmallows and making s’mores have become a fun family tradition for many. One of our friends regularly host a Firepit Friday with friends and neighbors, talk about making memories! Watching the flames dance across a fire can truly be mesmerizing. And the warmth of the coals after the flames have died down make us feel cozy and warm. It is the perfect way to de-stress after a busy week of many responsibilities. Add a beer or a glass of wine and it becomes one of your favorite evening traditions. If you are looking for a way to create lasting family memories, whether you are the parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, outdoor traditions rank high in childhood memories. In her book Ask the Children, Ellen Galinsky, cofounder of the Families and Work Institute, Ellen describes a survey in which she asked children what they would remember most about their childhood. Most of the kids responded by talking about simple, everyday traditions like family dinners, holiday get-togethers, and bedtime stories. Time at the firepit or fireplace should be added to the list.
When I go on a tour, I always have two goals; one is getting to spend time outside and the other is to bring home with me one idea from the tour. It doesn’t have to be on a large scale but I always try to keep an eye out for something creative that I probably wouldn’t think of doing on my own. For example check out the creative use of space at one of our homeowners, they have a very unique wood storage area. It is a clever way to store wood and keep your entertainment area clutter free and your wood pile dry and out of your company’s sightline.
